February 2014

Dear Friends,

When I am sitting at my computer, sometimes I get a little distracted. It becomes all too easy to decide to “just” check my emails. And then to “just” see if anyone has written anything interesting on Facebook (answer: occasionally but not half as often as I check it).
If you don’t know what Facebook is, it is a site on the internet where people can share with their friends and family what they are doing or thinking, ask questions or give advice, post photos, share funny things and lots of pictures of cats.
(I don’t really understand the fascination with cats.)
It is also a place where you can play little games. I play Bejewelled Blitz where you have to move gems around to make three in a row. I also play Criminal Case and Pearls Peril which are games where you have to remember where things are on a photo and click on them as quickly as possible. They are basically a kind of computerised “Kim’s Game” where you have to remember where things are. I like to think that I am helping to keep my memory working by doing this.
That is what I keep telling myself anyway

Of course there are other things that I could do to help keep my memory working. Things that have more value and meaning for my life. I often bemoan the fact that I seem to be able to remember trivia far better than the Bible. So this year I am going to try to do something about that. To spend time every week memorising a Bible verse that I can also meditate and reflect upon during the week as well. And which will maybe stop me from getting distracted by the non essential and instead focus on the Word and what I am called to do.

You may not own a computer, but chances are there are distractions in your life too. So why not join me this year? You can choose whether to start at Week One at any time, or skip to the week of the year that you are in right now (e.g. if you are reading this in the first week of February, that would be Week Five). The verses are all fairly short but all are well worth spending time on and will lead you deeper into your relationship to Christ.

Lets see how well we can focus on God and not be distracted.
How much we can learn of his Word.
And how much we can grow through this task.
(I’m not telling you how many times I sneaked a peak at Facebook whilst writing this....)

God bless,
